Today is International Women’s Day. In a climate where it seems that every day is an official day of something I generally ignore them all. But as my girls grow up far faster then I would like, this one gave me pause today. It is a day to celebrate where we have been and how far we have come. As I paused to sort through the global ramifications of my daughters becoming women (the good, bad and ugly of it all – really I am fearful for anyone who gets in their way 🙂 I thought of how inspiring they are to me and how fabulous it is to be a woman. I was looking at some photos of them from the past year and had to share with an inspiring poem that I found.
For the kickass women of the world.
Those that are, and those that are growing up to be.
The daughters. The mothers. The sisters.
The fribblings – friends like siblings.
The wives. The girlfriends.
The aunts. The nieces.
The grand-somethings.
The young uns. The teens.
The women in your life.
Who love, lose, cry.
Laugh, heal, thrive.
Nurture. Create.
You.Are.Amazing.
As. you. are.
Stronger than you know.
More beautiful than you think.
Worthier than you believe.
More loved than you can ever imagine.
Passionate about making a difference.
Fiery when protecting those you love.
Learning. Growing. Not alone.
Warm. Giving. Generous.
Quirky. Sexy. Funny. Smart.
Flawed. Whole. Scared. Brave.
And so, so, so.much.more.
Be Strong. Be Confident. Be You. (anonymous)
Each night I whisper to the girls as I tuck them in:
“You are smart, you are kind, you are inspiring and you can achieve anything you set your mind to in this life”
It means so much to me to be able to send them off to dreamland with a positive affirmation of who they are and will become.
I love you girls, remember …. take no prisoners but do it with a smile 😉
