I had thought I would be melancholy and sad but truthfully I was excited. Excited for the young woman that Erin has become and excited for her path forward. I have always thought that the job of a parent is to give children the tools that they need to manage whatever comes across their path in life …… Erin has grown into a kind, generous, intelligent, thoughtful, driven, stubborn and highly observant young woman. Characteristics that I believe will serve her well in life. Grade 8 has been an interesting year. Less about the academics (but believe me there was lots of academics) but more about the maturing of the kids. Taking responsibility, choosing to be a part of or not be a part of the general dramatics of 13/14 year old life. She loved being selected for the “beyond the hurt” program (a peer-led anti-bullying program). She was always brainstorming ideas for ways to help the kids. Fundamentally I know that she still cannot understand why some people choose to be unkind. I hope that she keeps that “unicorns and rainbows” view of the world for her entire life. 🙂 We take pride in seeing her handle adversity with dignity and grace and know that every life lesson she encounters only fuels her determination. It was a wonderful moment for Dave and I to watch Erin cross the stage and receive her diploma as well as the Math and Science award. I know that Erin is most proud of being named female Valedictorian. 🙂
She loved this dress the moment she tried it on.
It has pockets to hold her ipod …… what else could you ask for!
A prouder Grandma there could not be found 🙂
Erin was so excited to be greeted by our good friends Lloy and John. They adopted us and our kids in Windsor and are such an important part of our lives. Hugs – Lloy and John!
Erin braided Caitlyn’s hair for her before heading off to graduation. They do so love one another 🙂 This is the last time that they will be in the same school together and despite what Caitlyn says she will miss having Erin around to mess with on a daily basis. 😉
