Today is Sunday and it is an amazing day. I announced at breakfast that this was a fabulous day simply because we had already had 2 awesome days, today would be great and we get another holiday day tomorrow. :)
We left on Thursday (with 2 exhausted kids, that first week of school, short or not, takes a lot out of them) to take the boat up to Midland with plans to explore Beausoleil Island and Honey Harbour. Why not? This is the best weekend of the summer weather wise and it is the first weekend that we have actually been able to enjoy as a family – just us. We spent two great days exploring the islands, our hiking plans were detoured due to blueberry season and bears but we managed all the same.
Erin proving that Crocs do indeed float.
A really cool geologic formation. Notice that the rock "stripe" is a few inches taller then the surrounding rock. That is because it is a different kind and is actually stronger and more resistant to erosion then the surrounding rocks. Neat eh! Just a bit of my university training put to good use.
Caitlyn pouting because after the warnings of baby and mommy bears being sighted and trails being closed she thought we should still travel to blueberry hill to pick berries. Anyone who watches Dora the Explorer will understand….
We then returned to a neighbourhood BBQ on Saturday. If I haven't mentioned it before – I love my neighbours and my neighbourhood – they are terrific. And today is Sunday. Sunday is the annual tradition of the Orangeville Fair. And YEAH! my girls are tall enough that they do not need adults to ride with them anymore. (although Dave still insisted on joining in on a couple) No more nauseating Berries of Death! Back with two exhausted kids (one with an ear infection) and are looking forward to an evening campfire and enjoying the gorgeous Harvest Moon that is out there.
Hasn't this weekend been wonderful? I hope that if you haven't already you take the time to go for a walk, have a picnic or simply enjoy a glass of wine in the sunshine it works magic.
Dave and Caitlyn waving to Erin as she is riding Avalanche for the 3rd time.
