Last Days – First Days – Endings and Beginnings
With another Labour Day weekend in the books today is the first day of school in our household. The girls are adults but it is still a big day. The supportive texts and mocking gifs were flying last night in the family group chat. They are both embracing adventures this fall and it is a time of hopeful nervous excitement. It doesn’t change from the first time you drop them off in kindergarten to dropping them off at university.
As a parent you hope for uncomplicated first day of school things:
- that the day goes relatively smoothly
- that your child will have a friend in class with them
- that they will have a teacher who they connect with
- that they will be inspired and excited to learn
- and report home with fun stories to tell at the end of the day.
Honestly isn’t it what we all hope for when we try something new? Those first day of school lessons/hopes can be applied to any endeavour. First day of a new job, first date, first time trying a new grocery store LOL. Learning how to embrace the endings with the beginnings is a great skill!
We are officially empty-nesting it this fall. How exciting!!! We had almost empty nested before but unfortunately Covid had different ideas. It is actually happening. Excited and hopeful for what may come, I know that the girls will flourish and am excited to watch them fly.
I am making a deliberate choice not to get bogged down in mourning the end of summer but to embrace the new beginnings of fall and hope to have many new fun stories to tell.
Good Luck to all of you Mom’s and Dad’s out there. I hope that your kids get off the bus with their lunches eaten and big smiles on their faces.
