Saturday finally arrived and I greeted it eagerly. I had been counting down the days to my photocamp. It booked up quickly and I was excited to spend the day with kids who share my passion. I had been chanting daily “it will not rain on Saturday, it will not rain on Saturday” and it did not rain on Saturday. Cool and windy but the rain did not come and the sun did show it’s face now and again. …. But to get on with the fabulous Girls Rock Day.
The day was dedicated to feeling great about who you were and inspiring that wonderful feeling in each other. 16 excited girls entered my home in the morning and the house was filled with nonstop giggles and laughter. Sonia from Safe Futures Canada joined me for the day to lead a series of esteem building exercises and do her thing. 🙂 As well as Kati Van Wyck, (makeup artist and eyelash extension technician), Natasha Boldireff (yoga instructor extraordinaire at Headwaters Raquet club and yogalaya) and Tammy Reynolds (fearless friend and fabulous fruit chopper ;). The afternoon was filled with photography activities designed to let the kids play with my props and lights, learn how to use their cameras, and learn how to create an artistic, pleasing, FOCUSED photograph. The day ended too soon! (truly – even for the Leaders 😉
I am grateful to be able to meet such an amazing group of young women. They were warm, fun, open-hearted, open-minded and overflowed Sonia’s “Warm Fuzzy” board with kind notes to one another so much that it grew to 4x it’s original size!! (The board is still up – I can’t bring myself to take down such positive statements!)
We had a fabulous time and I am looking forward to doing another one soon. But in the meantime (starting tomorrow – Friday) I am going to start a photo challenge. This is geared towards my photocamp and after school class students and any and all kids who would like to participate. I will suggest a photo subject – you will take a photo, submit it to me and I will post it on my blog and facebook sites. Check back tomorrow for full details – and the first assignment – I can’t wait!!!! 🙂
The Camp T-shirts sorted by size ready to be handed out.
Kati Van Wyck came to my rescue at the last minute and joined us Warrior Women to bring out the girls “glow” for photos. The day was all about “you are amazing just as you are”, but you know how girls are ….. Kati did an amazing job! Thanks so much Kati!
Each of the girls will receive a photo that I took of them 🙂
Tammy and Sonia my fearless companions! (Thanks ladies!!)
Personal me – “b-side” version. (lol)
We were joined by Natasha (from Headwaters Raquet Club and Yogalaya) who fearlessly led the girls in an 1 hour yoga session. You are brave and amazing Natasha. Thank you so much for sharing your passion with us. 🙂
Sun salutation – yes the sun came out just in time to be greeted 🙂
A couple more sample portraits – sorry kids I couldn’t fit them all on – but they will be coming in the mail soon. 🙂

Patty– how incredibly talented you are not only in your beautiful craft of photography but in how to host and hold a loving and nurturing space for all of these young ladies. May Girls Rock be an enduring event in our community always! I would be happy to teach yoga any time!
