Tips for your Upcoming Head Shot Photo Session
There are a few things that you can consider prior to your photo session to help produce a positive outcome and photos that you enjoy.
Clothing:
- Avoid clothing with busy patterns or bold stripes.
- Dress like a boss – avoid overly casual clothing.
- Solid colours work the best. Avoid White if possible.
- Be certain that your clothes have seen an iron recently. (yes – please iron those shirts. You would be astonished the number of people that arrive and pull the shirt right out of the store packaging LOL) Ditch the undershirt and make sure that the shirt collar is ironed stiff.
- If you are uncertain bring a few options. It is always fun to try on a couple of looks to see what works the best.
- Jewelry is a great way to add flare to the photo.
- Closely-fitted clothing tends to look cleaner and less distracting than loose or baggy clothing, especially for formal or business-casual photos. If you plan to wear a blazer or suit jacket, make sure it fits closely around the shoulders and arms – even if that means it’s slightly too tight. If you’re concerned about your waistline, don’t worry – most head shots are taken with jackets and blazers unbuttoned.
Personal Grooming:
- Getting your hair and makeup done on the day is optimal. Makeup for photos is different then regular daily wear looks and can work miracles in giving you that “just back from vacation” look.
- Consider whitening your teeth the day before to make sure that you have a sparkling brilliant smile.
Glasses:
- Wear glasses that are nonreflective and do not darken in light.
