It's Christmas Eve and the chaos has been moderately contained. The kids are enchanted and can't wait til tomorrow morning.
Below is Caitlyn's Creation from School. I have been tormenting her by saying that she couldn't eat it until I took a picture of it. I have a feeling it will be breakfast Christmas morning.
The Gingerbread Sleigh. You know, I bought the kit thinking it would be easier – as you can see from the icing barely clinging to the gingerbread this was one of the more stressful experiences of our Holiday season.
The gingerbread house Erin won in a raffle at School. As you can see by the precise detailing this was not created by my hand.
The gingerbread village looks beautiful but I do not think that anyone actually eats gingerbread in our house. So in a matter of days these are going to be picked over carcasses with all of the favourite candies gone. 😉
I have given up on the spotless house that I had hoped for and decided that there are far far more important things in life and am sipping a glass of holiday cheer listening to the sounds of joy all over the house. Dave is following his Christmas tradition of shopping and wrapping on Christmas Eve, the girls are watching The year Without a Santa Claus ( you know the one with Snow Miser and Heat Miser – the best!) and I have made the traditional Horton Eggnog to share with family and friends this evening.
soooo YUMMY is the only way that it can be described.
Horton Christmas Eggnog
6 eggs separated
1/4 tsp salt
2/3 cup fruit powdered sugar
2 1/2 cups light cream
1 cup milk
1 cup rum/brandy (Dave does this taste test and our eggnog always has at least 3 cups of dark rum in it 🙂
1 1/4 cup whipping cream
freshly grated nutmeg
In large bowl beat together egg whites and salt until frothy. Gradually beat in half the sugar. Beating until stiff peaks form. In punch bowl beat egg yolks until light in colour, gradually add remaining sugar and beat until thickened and lemon coloured whisking constantly. Gradually add light cream and rum and milk. In chilled bowl whip whipping cream until soft peaks form. Fold whipped cream then beaten egg whites into yolk mixture. Chill. Sprinkle with nutmeg.
Makes 12 servings.

I am so looking forward to the next few days. I love that we try our best to make our Christmas' about JOY and am grateful to see that in the girls.
Merry Christmas!
