It’s that wonderful time of year again……the time of year when Caitlyn has a birthday and she requests an elaborate cake that my baking abilities have NO HOPE of producing. Last year it was the puffer fish which was an interesting achievement, this year it is a snake. Caitlyn LOVES reptiles, lizards, snakes, bugs and all other sorts of creatures I would normally not allow in my house. We had a fabulous party today with a house full of wonderful kids, but the details of the birthday party will follow in another post this one is all about the snake cake. 🙂
So here it goes – Patty is in the kitchen. Man the fire Extinguishers and the mops!!!
It began with 2 cakes made in bundt pans and 3 cup cakes. Note the cake is laid out on my office whiteboard – talk about multiuse office equipment. 🙂
I froze the cakes then iced them in an attempt to keep the “crumbs” down…..not so successful on the crumbs but the shape was working.
Erin mixing up one of the many colours of the snake. The goal was for a pretty girly snake.
Here the snake is about 50% complete. This was when the icing was dripping down the sides of the snake like pudding and my level of concern was mounting. I quietly, so as not to raise alarm, sent up smoke signals to a friend. 😉 ****Note to all people out there – yes our kids may have great phone manners but keep in mind that that is a show for the outside world. They do hang up the phone and revert to the children that live in our own homes who do not pass on the phone message until at least 6 hours have passed or they have played 2 rounds of mario kart and have eaten at least 3 snacks. 😉
My friend Julie, after receiving her phone message, arrived with the most incredible cake decorating tool box I have ever seen and put the finishing touches (polish) on the snake. Thanks Julie – You are amazing!! She was reassuring gently expressing that yes I had indeed made a poor choice in icing but yes I could learn to do this myself. While Erin chirped “Mommy, Julie’s amazing Why can’t you do that?” (Love the unfailing support from my family 😉 At least they know how to work fire extinguishers.
The finished cake – a beautiful Girly Snake Cake ……Love it!!
