I have joked often over the past year about how being a mom and raising my kids broke me. My kids roll their eyes because they know the truth. They didn’t break me, the choices that I made were all me. They were just being kids learning what they need to learn and experiencing what they needed to experience to become fully functioning adults in this world.
A wise woman told me many years ago that it is imperative that I make a point of doing something for myself. And it is even more important that my kids see me doing it. As a parent it is easy to slip into the habit of doing everything for everyone especially when the kids are young and need that support. It is important that they see me doing something that is entirely about me for me and nothing to do with anyone else. The reasons for this are many:
- They see a woman taking the time to fuel themselves and do something entirely “selfish”.
- They see a husband supporting their spouse taking that time.
- They learn to be independent and able to do things for themselves.
- They then can apply this template to their future adult relationships.
Really looks good on paper. Not so much to put into practice. 😉 AS I have mentioned in other post’s I found it difficult to make the space on a regular basis to do something entirely about/for me and no one else. I love my crew, love being a mom to them and loved doing my best to nurture and raise them along the way. It is the one thing that I wish I had put a little more energy into along the way.
I thought that I would pass that bit knowledge on to you as I think it is an absolutely spot on perfect piece of advice.
This year for Mother’s Day my fabulous crew gave me this hysterical candle. We laughed because of the truth behind it. The shit flowed both ways and I adore that we all know it and laugh about it.
