This chilly run of weather is making my heart ache for Hawaii 🙁 It has only been 4 short weeks since we returned but it feels like forever. We settled very quickly back into our regular busy routine and i miss the slower pace of our family vacation. And who’s kidding who the 80 degrees with a gentle breeze and no humidity is absolute paradise!!
One of the favourite things for the girls to do while in Hawaii is surfing. We prefer to start them out with a lesson to get their legs back underneath them then let them loose for the rest of the trip to play and practise themselves. This time we found an amazing surf place in Kihei with a female instructor – Surf Club Maui. Founded by Suzanne and Michael Dorn it has that fabulous laid-back Hawaiian feel without the typical tourist trappings. It was exactly what we were looking for!! They offer lessons for all abilities as well as rentals. Definitely worth checking out if you are in Maui.
The girls loved their instructor Mallorie and I loved that she did not coddle them, instead they had to carry their boards and take full responsibility from start to finish. True lessons in surfing!! 🙂 At the end of the 3 hours the girls were exhausted but still smiling and feeling quite accomplished. 🙂
Aloha Surf Club Maui!!!
I love their bright yellow surf shack – it’s so happy looking 🙂
Getting ready to make the leap up on her first wave. 🙂
Paddling out to the bigger waves 🙂
Caitlyn loving it!
Erin getting an atta girl from another surfer after she beat him to a wave. 🙂
Coming in at the end of the lesson – trying to do a duo thing. 😉 I loved the bright red rashguards. Not only additional sun protection but I could spot them easily out in the surf.
Erin, Mallorie, and Caitlyn – look at those happy smiles!!!!
Erin practising turning. She also mastered a 180 where you jump up and turn so that you are facing the opposite direction. She has big dreams to grow up and be a surfer babe 😉
Caitlyn on her wave. Note where Erin and Mallorie are looking … never turn your back on the ocean!!!
This last one was of the beach wash – a little like a dog and a squirrel i was distracted from the surfing for a second. 😉
