The Holiday season has been a busy one for us. We enjoyed lots of great one on one family time as well as visits with family and friends. We even managed to squish in a day of skiing – very joyous indeed. I am now faced with two overdone and out of sync kids as well as husband and myself … I am fighting a cold dosing myself with advil cold and sinus and hot toddies (ancient Glassford family recipe ;). In the meantime I am sifting through the hundreds of photos I took over Christmas.
One of the highlights of our Holiday season has been Erin's involvement in the TOYS choir. Erin loves to sing and is one of those kids that is always humming and singing so much so that it can be a little irritating (yes, bad mommy moment, but there is always a time and a place!) But in general we love to hear her and watch her glow as she performs. This year she was selected for the TOYS choir and we were overjoyed to watch her perform in Theater Orangeville's "A Christmas Story". It sounds like a second "bad mommy moment" but for the first time Erin was not the forgetful kid that she usually is but a super responsible completely organized and on-top-of things young tween. This shows exactly how much Erin loves being a part of this Choir. It is led by an inspiring group of women who have more patience then humanly possible and I thank them.
In her costume prior to a performance – sorry no performance photos – no cameras allowed in the theater. Buy a ticket and go see a show they are great!
The highlight of the 2009 TOYS season for us was performing SHINE and O CANADA at the Orangeville Torch Run. We like approximately 6000 others braved the frigid temperatures to get a glimpse. Caitlyn was MISERABLE and spent the 3 hours sulking in her wagon as only red-headed 5 years olds can sulk but we stayed put and will cherish the experience forever. Erin was on stage with the TOYS singing O Canada and was able to see the torch carried by Bryon Mackie up onto the stage and light the cauldron. Her eyes were glowing when I picked her up. "Mom! I was right there! I was right behind the torch when it was lit! I got to see it up close!" The excitement, the joy, and the pride made me think that the frostbite and the misery was all worth it and it will be an experience that Erin will cherish forever. My photo ops were limited by my sulky 5 year old but I still got some fun ones. If anyone managed to get any close-up photos of the TOYS choir I would love one for Erin's scrapbook.
Love the Run Dufferin Vests!
We Canadians very rarely wear our pride out loud. It was inspiring to be surrounded by it. Canada is a fabulous country. The rights and freedoms that we have should be cherished and not be taken for granted. Dave especially in his travels over the last couple of years and come to realize exactly HOW great we have it in Canada and we try our best to educate the girls on the poverty and political restrictions in other countries.
