My family is feeling a little hard done by because they have not seen any photos from the summer. “It’s on my list” I keep saying…..the list grows ever longer. Even though everyone is in fall mode please forgive this throwback to the glory days of August when the sun warmed your skin and there was still sunlight at 8 pm.
One of our very favourite places to explore is the Trent-Severn Waterway. The Georgian Islands is a particular favourite. Such gorgeous topography and history. We love to travel through the locks, swim, stop for ice cream and in general slow down the pace of life. We found 3 days in August and dashed up north for a family get away.
Erin has become a first-rate First Mate and Caitlyn is just crazy. Always the first to jump off the boat – frigid water or not – up for anything as long as there is ice cream somewhere involved in the day. Makes for a great adventure!
We stayed at a fabulous place in Port Severn at Rawley’s Resort. Definitely recommend! We had a little suite with a kitchenette perfect for a glass of wine after a long day on the water. The hotel had a closet full of games and the girls occupied themselves with snakes and ladders and a multitude of others that flew in and out of the room. The employees were full of information and soooo nice. 🙂 Thanks Rawley’s Resort!
One of our favourite locks – The Big Chute Marine Railway. Definitely a must see on a list of cool stuff in Ontario. It is exactly what it sounds like a railway for boats. They hoist the boat out of the water and run it on rails up to the next level. Very neat!
She is either scouting for bears, dogs, or the next ice cream place. 🙂
Catching a little nap in the sunshine.
Erin is fastidious about how the lines look when we are tied up.
A coil that would make Grandma H. proud.
Port Seven lock #45 – operated by shear people power!
I love that I captured Caitlyn’s “awe” at the Swift Rapids lock (#43) This is the deepest single chamber lock in the system and is about 47 feet. Quite impressive when you are inside at the bottom looking up.
And – sneaking this one in at the end – a birthday celebration for Dave. Yes, it is a store bought cake, it’s the thought that counts right? 😉
